Some may think Oscar-winning actor George Clooney is bigger than life. He is in this photo taken by Mike Venditti. "I took this photo from the rooftop of the hotel where I was staying in Barcelona, Spain," said Mike. "There is a great deal of ongoing construction work and cleaning of facades throughout the city. Someone came up with the money-making idea of putting advertisements ('I wish I'd thought of it!') on the protective screens. This ad is for an espresso machine and features George Clooney. It was very nice to have an 8-story tall George smiling at me every morning as I walked out of the hotel." Mike was one of the scoreboard people in the filming of "Leatherheads" scheduled for release April 4. Mike's photo is on the bottom of the first photo album page.

UN designates Clooney 'Messenger of Peace'

January 18, 2008

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon Friday designated actor and activist George Clooney a UN "Messenger of Peace" to help promote global awareness of the world body's activities especially in its far-flung peacekeeping missions.

Clooney, who has been campaigning for an end to the 4 1/2 -year war in Darfur and for humanitarian aid for the millions caught up in the conflict, will become the ninth UN peace envoy.

Many UN agencies have goodwill ambassadors to promote their activities, ranging from helping children and refugees to promoting human rights, but "Messengers of Peace" are selected by the secretary general to promote the broader work of the United Nations.

UN spokesperson Michele Montas, who made the announcement, said Clooney was recognized "for focusing public attention on crucial international political and social issues." As a Messenger of Peace, she said, he will have "a special focus on United Nations peacekeeping."

Clooney will visit UN headquarters Jan. 31 to receive his designation and attend a meeting of nations that contribute troops to the 17 UN peacekeeping missions in countries from the Mideast and Africa to Haiti, Afghanistan and East Timor. The 17 missions, with more than 100,000 personnel, include 73,000 troops and more than 9,000 international police. One of the newest missions is a joint African Union-UN peacekeeping force for Darfur that's deploying this month.

Clooney and actor Don Cheadle co-founded a humanitarian organization called, Not On Our Watch, together with other stars, including Brad Pitt and Matt Damon, to focus global attention on the plight of Darfur's people. They have raised more than $9.3 million (U.S.) for humanitarian efforts in the region.

George and Renee talk about a special relationship

December 14, 2007

After a decade of friendship—and endless romance rumors—George Clooney and Renée Zellweger are costars at last.

For a few minutes on a Monday afternoon in early autumn, on the roof deck of a Manhattan photo studio, the impromptu banter of a celebrity interview suddenly sounds as though it’s been scripted by Preston Sturges.

George Clooney is sitting with Renée Zellweger, his costar in the upcoming screwball comedy Leatherheads, which Clooney also directed, and the two are chattering away, less like the former paramours they are alleged to be and more like pals from way back, catching each other up on how they conquered the world at 24 frames per second.

Their connection is so striking, one of such evident affection and yet such inert sexual chemistry, that it’s only natural to ask how long the two have known one another.

“And, watching TV tonight on “Entertainment Tonight” they had about a 2 minute segment showing scenes from Leatherheads!”

EW: Clooney among top 25 star picks

November 24, 2007

Entertainment Weekly choose George Clooney as one of its Valedictorians among this year’s top 25 stars.

If not for one unlucky September afternoon on the streets of New Jersey, 2007 would have been just perfect for George Clooney. In the first calendar year after his Oscar win for Best Supporting Actor in “Syriana”, he headlined the well-received blockbuster “Ocean's Thirteen”, turned in one of the most forceful performances of his career in the legal drama “Michael Clayton” (which he also exec-produced), and even popped up doing humanitarian work in the documentary “Darfur”.

And the guy still had time to direct the football romance “Leatherheads” (due in April), take a role as an assassin in the Coen brothers‘ upcoming comedy “Burn After Reading”, and, of course, crash his motorcycle.

With or without a fractured rib, Clooney has forever been the definition of class. “It’s always nice to see someone coming into their own and assuming it very graciously,'” says Tilda Swinton, Clooney’s costar in both “Clayton” and “Burn After Reading”. “'He has a very developed sense of service. And who knows what he’s going to do with it.”

The other members of Entertainment Weekly’s Top 25 are:

Valedictorians: Sopranos, Angelina Jolie, Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, The Cable Girls (Glenn Close in “Damage”, Mary-Louise Parker in “Weeds”, Kyra Sedgwick “The Closer”, and Holly Hunter in “Saving Grace”.

Most popular: Matt Damon, Johnny Depp, Katherine Heigl, Carrie Underwood and Kanye West.

Prodigee’s: Zac Efron, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Shia Labeouf.

Class Clown: Will Farrell and Andy McKay, Tina Fey, Apatow Gang, The Simpsons and Vanessa Williams.

Most Buzzed About: Gerard Butler, Amy Winehour, Tyler Perry and Madmen.

Entertainer of the Year: J.K. Rowlings, author of the Harry Potter series.

Football on Thanksgiving dates to 1876

November 22, 2007

Throughout the United States, football on Thanksgiving Day is as big a part of the celebration as turkey and pumpkin pie.

Abraham Lincoln took her advice and proclaimed the last Thursday of November 1863 as Thanksgiving Day.

In 1874, eleven years after Lincoln's proclamation making the last Thursday of November as Thanksgiving Day, the first intercollegiate football game was played. Two years later, the Intercollegiate Football Association was formed in the northeast, and it instituted a championship game for Thanksgiving Day. Within a decade it was the premier athletic event in the nation.

Princeton and Yale played each other almost every year in this game, and by the 1890s they were drawing crowds of 40,000. Players, students, and fans wore their school colors, while banners flew from carriages, hotels, and the business establishments of New York City. Thanksgiving Day church services were ended early to accommodate the fans, and the game became the event that kicked off the season for New York's social elite.

In 1893, the New York Herald declared in a scathing commentary: "Thanksgiving Day is no longer a solemn festival to God for mercies given.… It is a holiday granted by the State and the Nation to see a game of football."

By the mid-1890s, 120,000 athletes from colleges, clubs, and high schools took part in 5,000 Thanksgiving Day football games across the nation. The Yale-Princeton Thanksgiving Day game of 1893 earned $13,000 for each school from gate receipts and immediately became the primary source of revenue for their athletic programs.

Clooney tells ET photographers are 'reckless'

November 20, 2007

After video was leaked Monday of George Clooney verbally scuffling with photographers who had followed the Oscar winner and his girlfriend during a weekend motorcycle ride, he is now talking about why he responded so viscerally.

“It’s not about shooting pictures, it’s about the risks they’re taking and driving with reckless abandon,” Clooney told Entertainment Tonight.

"I live on a street where everyone hikes. There are mothers with strollers and elderly people. What they’re doing is illegal, it’s high-speed chases and they’re competing with each other. They’re not trying to catch me doing something stupid, they’re trying to create me doing something stupid.

“You don't get to break all these laws and then say ‘I’m just doing my job.’ The guys that commit all these crimes are rewarded for it. It creates bounty hunters in a way. They cry poor… then look at the cars they’re driving… Mercedes and Land Rovers.”

Clooney came to the defense of other stars who have had famous paparazzi encounters.
“You look at the footage of Britney running the red light… there’s eight guys with cameras at night in the middle of the street. There are no rules now. It sounds like a bunch of well-off people whining about how difficult their life is but I really don’t believe that is the case. It’s getting to a point where people that are not involved are getting hurt.

“I’m the son of an anchorman (father Nick, is a TV newsman). I don’t want to restrict anyone’s rights. Take your pictures but don’t go 60 mph down a one-way street. Don’t cause injury to people who aren't involved.”

Clooney, back on a bike, has spat with photographers

November 19, 2007

George Clooney got into a spat with the paparazzi Sunday as he was taking a ride with his girlfriend Sarah Larson around Mulholland Drive.

It was Clooney’s first ride since he suffered a broken rib and scrapes when he and Larson collided with a car in Weehawken, N.J., in September.

Clooney took the photographers to task Sunday for getting too close and cutting him off during his ride. He asked them to share the road and not risk further injury.

Clooney yelled at the paparazzi for cutting him off and almost causing him to have an accident Sunday. “I've been down on a motorcycle,” he says at one point. “The last thing I want to do is get bumped.”

In a video of the incident, obtained by website TMZ.com, an angry Clooney says: "You broke some laws, I want to find out what your licence plate number is."

An onlooker said, "George was gingerly cruising around. He then met up with some friends for a drive around the area."

George Clooney donates $25,000 for strike relief

November 17, 2007

George Clooney has donated $25,000 to the show business charity the Actors Fund to provide emergency relief for workers facing financial hardship due to the strike by Hollywood screenwriters.

Clooney was quoted in Friday's edition of the entertainment trade paper Daily Variety that he planned to make periodic donations to the fund, and urged fellow stars to follow suit.

He said he chose the New York-based nonprofit agency, which assists workers in all walks of the entertainment industry, because relief is provided in the form of grants, not loans, and eligibility does not depend on union membership.

The Writers Guild of America went on strike against the major film and TV studios on Nov. 5 after negotiations on a new contract for its 12,000 members reached an impasse in a dispute over higher fees the union is seeking from Internet revenues.

The strike immediately threw the television industry into disarray, idling hundreds of non-writing production employees along with striking WGA members as work on numerous shows ground to a halt.

While studios' film release schedule has been unaffected, Hollywood stars have had fewer venues to promote their latest movies with the shutdown of late-night talk shows.

“To people like myself, the strike is a forced vacation, but ... there is the fear that a prolonged strike can destroy people who make a living in this industry,” Clooney told Variety. “My hope is that people who can afford it will take responsibility for this and help out.”

The 125-year-old Actors Fund distributed $2 million in emergency assistance in 2006 and is likely to exceed that sum this year if the screenwriters work stoppage and a separate strike by Broadway stagehands drag on.

The last Hollywood strike, also staged by the WGA in 1988, lasted 22 weeks and cost the industry an estimated $500 million. Experts say a strike of that duration now would probably top $1 billion in economic losses.

Clooney is back in the saddle again -- on his bike

November 16, 2007

Proving himself a man of his word George Clooney hopped back on his bike – just as he promised after his September 21 motorcycle accident.

“I’ve been riding for 30 years, and I’ve had three accidents, which isn’t bad odds," Clooney told Time magazine in an interview. “I’ll keep riding.”

Clooney suffered broken bones, a broken rib and his girlfriend, Sarah Larson, broke her foot in the accident.

“I feel lucky we got out of it OK,” said Clooney, 46. “It’s scary.”

Clooney is cast in ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox’

November 14, 2007

From wire services

George Clooney has been cast to star in the movie “Fantastic Mr. Fox”, based on a story by Roald Dahl.

Directed by Wes Anderson, the movie will be animated and revolves around Mr. Fox trying to outwit three farmers, ananova.com reports.

“It was one of my favorite books as a child,” said Anderson. “I have been trying to make this film for eight years. There’s a whole new bit at the start and a new section at the end, but we have tried to do something that Roald Dahl would love.”

Movies based on Dahl’s stories include “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” starring Johnny Depp and “James and the Giant Peach”.

George and Renee on work, prostitutes and more

November 10, 2007

By StarPulse.com

In the December issue of W magazine, on newsstands November 23, George Clooney says he didn't know what prostitutes were until he cruised around in a Porsche with his cousin, actor Miguel Ferrer, when he first moved to California: "I didn't know what hookers were. We pulled up at the stoplight, and all of these girls came over, and they were like, 'Hey, do you want to party?' I looked at Miguel and I said, 'Chicks love me, man! I'm on fire here!'"

Following are other comments from George Clooney and Renée Zellweger's interview:

George Clooney

ON BACKING BARACK OBAMA IN THE NEXT PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION… "I spoke to him two days ago for a half hour. I think that he's in that sort of doldrums, that midelection run, where you're still trying to define what it is that you want to be."

ON BORROWING SHOTS FROM DIRECTORS HE ADMIRES… "I sent apology letters to Mike Nichols and Sidney Lumet after Confessions because I just directly stole shots. But then I told Joel and Ethan that I've stolen shots from them, and they're like, 'Yeah, we stole that shot from Capra.'"

ON REWRITNG THE SCRIPT OF LEATHERHEADS TO ACCOMMODATE HIS AGE… "You can't try to hide your age and you can't try to pretend it isn't there. You have to use it as a tool."

ON ZELLWEGER'S ROLE IN THE UPOMING FILM LEATHERHEAADS… "In movies, so often the guy gets to be the one with all the answers. In this one, she's the smart one. Which was incredible acting on her part."

ON DIRECTING ZELLWEGER IN LEATHERHEADS… "She's my friend, so I can be really direct. I can say, 'That's not a good angle,' and not try to manipulate her, saying, 'Well, maybe you'd be looking off over there because the moon is shining.'"

ON ENCOURAGING GAWKER READERS TO POST FAKE SIGHTINGS OF HIM…"They had 6,000 locations for me in the first day."

ON WORKING WITH MASTER DIRECTORS LIKE JOEL AND ETHAN COEN AND STEVEN SODERBERGH… "[They] taught me everything I know. If you plan it out and work really hard, then it's much easier to make films."

Renee Zellweger

ON HER FEAR OF LETTING CLOONEY DOWN IN LEATHERHEADS… "…He doesn't even know how important his opinion has been to me over the years. I don't want to disappoint him."

ON CLOONEY'S DIRECTION IN LEATHERHEADS…"I just get so proud that my head pops off. George is such a confident director, and he has no idea. And he's a nice person. It gets boring hearing that, but it's true. Every once in a while you get the real good guy. You've got your Jimmy Stewart. You've got your Paul Newman. Now you've got your George Clooney."

ON GAWKER ENCOURAGING READERS TO POST STARS' PRECISE WHEREABOUTS... "Oh, I log on every day to see where George is. Oh my God, get your things! He's at Barneys!...The problem with that is with his schedule these days, the sightings were all true. He was in all 6,000 places that morning-before lunch."

Clooney and Fabio get pushy

November 7, 2007

Don't sit George Clooney next to former romance model Fabio.

On Friday, Clooney and gal pal Sarah Larsen were having dinner at L.A. eatery Madeo next to Fabio and a group of women. All was well until one of Fabio's pals started taking pictures of her friends.

According to numerous eyewitnesses, Clooney, assuming the woman was taking snaps of him, asked her to stop - prompting Fabio to explain that the shots were of his group, not Clooney, and to tell the superstar, "Stop being a diva."

Clooney started arguing back, and he and Fabio then got into a shoving match.

"The waiters broke it up before it got out of hand," a witness told In Touch. Clooney then paid his check and left before finishing his meal. According to another In Touch witness, Ron Marotto, "George looked annoyed when Fabio went to his table.

"George stood up, dropped the F-bomb and then went to push him . . . George was drinking . . . He wasn't drunk, but he certainly wasn't stone sober, either."

Fabio's manager told the magazine, "George is lucky he didn't end up in the ER."

Clooney's rep declined to comment to Page Six.

Cousin: Clooney vowed never to marry again

November 5 , 2007

George Clooney has vowed never to marry again, according to his actor cousin Miguel Ferrer.

Clooney, who recently started dating Sarah Larson, doesn't ever want to go through the pain of a divorce again, following his split from actress wife Talia Balsam after four years of marriage.

Ferrer says, "He's been married once before and swears he'll never do it again.

"So many people wind up with children or getting married who have no business doing it. He knows himself well enough to know that's not what he wants in his life. He's got to trust himself."

Swiss energy company invites Clooney on board

October 20, 2007

BERN, Switzerland -- George Clooney will become an executive board member of a new Swiss energy company being set up by Swatch Group chairman Nicolas Hayek, the Swiss billionaire said.

The company, which will develop environmentally friendly techniques for car motors, batteries and other devices, is aimed at reducing CO2-emissions in energy consumption, Hayek said in an interview with daily Berner Zeitung.

Clooney will sit on the board alongside Swiss astronaut Claude Nicollier and others, he said.

The new enterprise which will be based in the western Swiss city of Biel, will have different branches doing research and development in the clean production of hydrogen, solar energy and fuel cells, Hayek said.

Hayek said he will also preside over the new company's board. He did not say when the new company, which has yet to be named, will be launched.

27 hospital workers suspended over leak

October 10, 2007

The Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen, New Jersey has suspended 27 workers for allegedly leaking news last month that Hollywood star George Clooney had been admitted to the facility after a motorcycle accident, a report said Wednesday.

The medical center suspended the workers without pay for a month, deeming the breach of patient confidentiality as a “very serious issue,” the New York Post reported.

Oscar-winning Clooney, 46, who broke a rib and suffered road rash in the accident on September 21, reportedly said the punishment was unduly harsh.

On Tuesday afternoon, Clooney  issued a statement in defense of the staffers and emphasized that he had nothing to do with the investigation of the alleged leak.

“This is the first I’ve heard of it,” Clooney said, referring to the suspensions. “And while I very much believe in a patient’s right to privacy, I would hope that this could be settled without suspending medical workers.”

Clooney was travelling with girlfriend Sarah Larson at the time of the crash. Larson, 28, suffered a broken foot in the accident.

So far the hospital hasn’t accused its staff of leaking the information to the media, but the investigation revealed that as many as 40 hospital staff members accessed the actor’s personal medical records in apparent violation of federal law that bars staff members who are not directly connected to a patient’s treatment from consulting a patient’s medical records.

'Leatherheads' release delayed until April 4, 2008

October 5, 2007

The release of the new George Clooney-directed and starring romantic drama 'Leatherheads' has been delayed in the U.S. until next year.

Variety and the Hollywood reporter published reports that the film, due out December 7, will now be released April 4, 2008.

That also delays the Greenville, South Carolina premier until April. The new date will be announced later. The premier date, tickets and post-movie party will be rescheduled.

The extra time is to give Clooney, who recently broke a rib in a motorcycle accident, the opportunity to include additional footage and honour previous commitments.

Stan Rosenfield, the publicist for Clooney, reportedly will give a response next week.

"Due to (Clooney's) publicity schedule on Warner Bros.' "Michael Clayton", his concurrent shooting schedule on Focus Features' "Burn After Reading" and his recent motorcycle injury we have moved the release date of 'Leatherheads.' This will allow Clooney the time he needs to finish the film and for us to get maximum trailer play during the holiday period," the Hollywood Reporter quoted a Universal spokesperson.

'Leatherheads' is set during the early years of American Football in the 1920s and also stars Renée Zellweger.

"Michael Clayton" debuted Friday with exclusive engagements and Clooney promo stints, but the actor is hardly alone in his busy schedule of commitments. Top talent has been booked solid of late, thanks to studios' accelerating film production due to the threat of spring labor strife.

Meanwhile, "Leatherheads" lands on its new date with the aplomb of an offensive lineman hitting a mud puddle, reported the "Hollywood Reporter." It becomes the seventh picture set for wide release that weekend, though clearly one or more will be moved before then.

Squarely in the "not moving" category is Fox's Jodie Foster-Dakota Fanning fantasy "Nim's Island." Just last week, the studio nudged "Island" forward from April 25 to position the high-profile picture to play through a relatively light mid-April schedule, said the "Hollywood Reporter."

New Line said its hanging tough for now with its comedy sequel "Harold & Kumar II," though release schedules always are fluid and lots can still happen.

"At this point in time, there's no reason to move the picture," New Line distribution president David Tuckerman told the "Reporter".

Tuckerman said he sees little overlap between likely audiences for his comedy and the Clooney romancer.

Other wide openers set for April 4 include MGM's "Henry Poole Is Here," with Luke Wilson and Adriana Baraza; Paramount's lit-adaptation thriller "The Ruins"; the Djimon Hounsou starrer "Get Some," from Summit Entertainment; and Martin Scorsese's Rolling Stones documentary "Shine a Light" from Paramount Vantage. Even Universal has another picture set for wide release that weekend: the youthful romantic comedy "Wild Child," from Working Title.

Universal spokeswoman Stacy Ivers stold the "Reporter" execs haven't decided whether to move the Emma Roberts starrer "Child" to another date.

Clooney won't be cited in accident

September 24, 2007

Tinseltown heavy George Clooney, who was banged up and bruised in a motorcycle accident over the weekend, told "Access Hollywood" hot mama Nancy O'Dell, the experience was "nothing like giving birth!"

Like he would know?

Clooney, did make it to his the N.Y.C. premiere of "Michael Clayton" last night, won’t be cited in Friday's accident, according to the Weehawken, N.J. police.

TMZ.com reported yesterday that Weehawken cops have decided neither Clooney nor Albert Sciancalepore II, 27, driver of a Mazda that collided with the actor's Harley Davidson, will be cited. There's insufficient, the men in blue said, but the accident is still under investigation.

"Due to conflicting statements of driver and the lack of evidence to support either driver's version, no moving violation summons have been issued to either party at this time," the cops told TMZ.com.

George and new galpal, Sarah Larson, were struck by Sciancalepore's car on a narrow road across the Hudson River from Manhattan on Friday afternoon.

The Harley driver and his passenger attempted to pass on the right of the Mazda that was preparing to make a right turn, said Weehawken police Sgt. Sean Kelly.

The actor suffered a hairline fracture of a rib and road rash while Larson suffered a broken foot, his rep said. Both were released after receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Clooney dates a girl who has no fear

September 24, 2007

"Let me get this straight. George Clooney dates a girl who has no fear" musician Jerry Zaslavsky was quoted as saying. George Clooney's girlfriend Sarah Larson would probably not have batted an eyelid when she and the actor fell off the motorcycle they were riding, for she's been hung by her ankles 120 feet in the air, eaten a scorpion and walked a tightrope.

Before meeting Clooney, the leggy brunette had taken part in, and won, reality TV show's "Fear Factor" pocketing a prize of $50,000.

And she certainly has Zaslavsky, who stored the motorcycle Clooney was riding in his garage overnight, impressed.

"Let me get this straight. George Clooney dates a girl who has no fear?" the India Daily News quoted Zaslavsky, as saying.

Clooney and Lawson found themselves in the hospital after the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a car in New Jersey.

The crash was confirmed by the actor's rep, who revealed that while Clooney suffered a hairline fracture of a rib and road rash, Larson was left with a broken foot.

According to the police, the couple met with the accident when a 1999 Mazda Millenia that allegedly attempted to make a right turn from the left lane crashed into Clooney's Harley-Davidson at 3:30 p.m, reports People magazine.

However, the Mazda driver, identified as Albert Sciancaledore, 27, insisted that it was Clooney who was trying to pass cars in the right lane.

The couple were treated at Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen, N.J., and released.

Clooney: 'All is fine' after bike crash

September 23, 2007

Hollywood actor George Clooney says he is doing well after a motorcycle accident in New Jersey last week.

Clooney suffered a hairline rib fracture and road rash, while his girlfriend, Sarah Larson, broke her foot when their motorcycle and a car collided Friday.

Clooney told "Access Hollywood" presenter Nancy O’Dell "all is fine" after the accident, even joking with the new mom that it was "not like giving birth."

Despite the crash, Clooney was still planning to attend the world premiere of "Michael Clayton," Tuesday night in New York City.

"Access Hollywood" co-host Billy Bush also interviewed the 27-year-old chef, Albert Sciancalepore, who was involved in the accident with Clooney.

Asked what he thought upon learning the other party in the accident was Clooney, Sciancalepore said: "My main concern was there's two people on the ground, they just hit me and, you know, I'm concerned for them.

"They're both bleeding, it's more of a shock than anything, not because he's a celebrity, but more to the fact that there's two people hurt on the ground that could have been severely hurt," he said.

Clooney's representative told the show, however, that the actor's bike was hit by the car.

George Clooney breaks rib in motorcycle crash

September 22, 2007

George Clooney and a companion were injured on Friday when their motorcycle collided with a car on a narrow road across the Hudson River from New York City, the Associated Press reported. The accident took place in Weehawken, N.J.

Clooney suffered a broken rib and scrapes while his passenger, Sarah Larson, broke her foot in the 3:30 p.m. collision. The two were treated at Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen and released, Clooney's spokesman, Stan Rosenfield, said.

"He's doing fine," Rosenfield said. "He has a broken rib, it's very painful and it''ll take a long time to heal."

Clooney and Larson were traveling north and sped up to pass on the right of a 1999 Mazda Millenia that was preparing to make a right turn, said Weehawken police Sgt. Sean Kelly. Both were wearing helmets.

It wasn't known whether the Mazda's driver, whose identity was not immediately released, used a turn signal, Kelly said. The accident was under investigation.

"It's a he-said, she-said right now, but you can't pass on the right in Weehawken or anywhere in Jersey," Kelly said.

Rosenfield said the accident occurred when the vehicle signaled a left-hand turn, but turned right and struck Clooney's motorcycle.

"The car signaled left. George was riding to the right. The driver decided to make an abrupt right turn and clipped George," he said.

The 46-year-old actor was in the New York area to film the dark comedy "Burn After Reading," co-starring Brad Pitt, John Malkovich and Frances McDormand.

Clooney's recovery shouldn't interrupt the production's schedule, Rosenfield said.

Clooney's latest film, "Michael Clayton," will be released next month. He and Larson have been spotted together at several film festivals and movie premieres in recent weeks.

Clooney, Alba top singles' most desired list

September 18, 2007

When it comes to the most desirable Hollywood stars, it appears George Clooney and Jessica Alba are second to none.

In a poll conducted by Yahoo! Personals, singles were asked which celebrity male and female they would most like to date.

Gentleman George topped the male list, with the forever-shirtless Matthew McConaughey coming in as a close second. Other stars who find themselves the object of desire by female singles were hip hop impresario Kanye West, singer Ricky Martin, baseball star Derek Jeter and tennis pro Andy Roddick.

When single males were asked which celebrity starlet they would most like to find themselves in the company of, FHM's 2007 “Sexiest Woman Alive” Jessica Alba was the top pick.

Jennifer Aniston finished second, followed by Queen Latifah, Jessica Simpson, tennis beauty Maria Sharapova, Sandra Oh and “Top Chef” vixen Padma Lakshmi.

Susan Mernit, Yahoo! Personals' online dating expert offers her insight on what it is about George and Jessica that put them at the top of their class.

“It is obvious that both George Clooney and Jessica Alba are top of mind when it comes to 'sexiest celebrity,' given their reigning titles for People magazine and FHM magazine, respectively,” Susan said. “In addition to people finding them physically appealing, it doesn't hurt that they have both maintained a clean reputation while living in front of the cameras. That combination is most likely why our survey's respondents find them so desirable.”

The poll was conducted to coincide with National Singles Week (September 17 - 21).

Clooney: 'My looks won't last'

September 10, 2007

George Clooney is reminded by his fans that his trademark good looks won't last forever.
And the “Ocean's Thirteen” star confesses he doesn't know how to react to being voted one of the world's sexiest men.

He says: “There is no way I can respond to those awards without sounding like a jackass. If I say 'Yes, I am a sex symbol', then I sound like a conceited idiot.

“The only way to live with it is just say thank you and realize it is not going to last. Nothing ever does.

“All those things are going to disappear one day and I know that every time I get confronted by fans. They'll talk about me as if I am not there. Like how much older I look in person or have all this grey hair.”

Clooney presents award to 'Ocean's Eleven' producer

September 16, 2007

Actor George Clooney has presented a Lifetime Achievement Award to Hollywood producer Jerry Weintraub, who made “Ocean's Eleven” and its sequels.

“Well, I have to be here because he has photos of me,” joked Clooney at Boston Film Festival, in Boston's Intercontinental Hotel.

Clooney, who starred in the “Oceans” series, went on: “No, listen, it is important to be here for a number of reasons.

“First of all, because he's a dear friend, and secondly, it is a really deserving honor, and so, I'm thrilled to be here.”

The 23rd Boston Film Festival opened on Friday with John Cusack's film, “Grace is Gone.” Previous festivals have honored William H. Macy, Susan Sarandon, Jeff Bridges and other actors.

Weintraub, who turns 70 on September 26, said he was happy that his good friend, Clooney, was on hand to present the award.
“I'm starting the second half of my life, so it is nice to get it now,” Weintraub said.

Films scheduled to screen this year include “Rails and Ties”, directed by Alison Eastwood, and starring Kevin Bacon and Marcia Gay Harden.

“Good Luck Chuck” star Dane Cook was expected to make an appearance today, along with Eastwood, Clint Eastwood's daughter.

The Boston Film Festival runs until Friday.

George Clooney was born to be famous

September 15, 2007

The “Ocean's Thirteen” star finds it easy to cope with fame because he has been surrounded by celebrities since the first day he entered the world.

George said: “I grew up around famous people in Cincinnati, Ohio. In that world, my father was a big star. My aunt was a big star. And I saw how little it was to do with you. It's all about luck. I've been around this sort of thing my whole life. I know what it is.”

The 46-year-old's father, Nick Clooney, was a high-profile news presenter known for his hard-hitting political journalism, while his late aunt Rosemary Clooney had a huge pop career in the 1950s.

When Rosemary's career went downhill in the 60s she went into semi-retirement and battled psychiatric problems before later becoming a well-respected jazz vocalist.

George revealed in an interview with Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper: “I saw my aunt lose her fame, and it wasn't like she became less of a singer along the way.

“It's luck. Once you understand that everything you're doing is literally based on stars aligning then you don't really take it for granted. You enjoy it.”

George Clooney - The consummate gengtleman

September 12, 2007

George Clooney was in high spirits last night, taking time to shoot the breeze with a TMZ camera. Confessions of a courteous mind.

Our photog ran into Clooney outside of New York's Nobu, where the affable actor gave a homeless man some dough and a warm pat on the shoulder. Nice touch! Cordial George was even watchful of our backwards-walking photog, saying he would feel like “a rat” if anyone got hurt filming him. Thanks, Batman!

Then he took our camera in his own hands, discussing the difference between brands and some techniques for getting the right shot. When the lesson was over, George gave the equipment back and took off.

Clooney: What a kidder!

September 10, 2007

George Clooney is a kidder.

As he took his chair at a Toronto press conference for the new film “Michael Clayton”, he kidded about being addressed as “Sir George” when he was introduced. He wisecracked about Brad Pitt being short and how he'd like to beat up Matt Damon.

In fact, when asked if any movies ever made him cry he volleyed this zinger into the crowd. “The premiere of 'Batman & Robin.' That made me cry a lot and a couple of moments in 'The Peacemaker.' The beginning and the end.”

Yet “Michael Clayton” is one film this box office A-lister is happy to have been involved with and that's no joke.

"The truth is it's really hard to find a good script in Hollywood. You would think it would be easy, but it's not," said Clooney with co-stars Tilda Swinton and director Tony Gilroy by his side.

With a “well-crafted” script and the chance to play a role he had not yet tackled, Clooney signed on to star in and executive produce this compelling new thriller.

Clooney is no worse for the wear

September 8, 2007

Slim and scruffy. But still handsome. That is what George Clooney looks like these days.

Both conditions are the result of movie-making, says the star of the thriller “Michael Clayton”, which had its festival premiere Friday night and opens Oct. 5.

Clooney's salt-and-pepper beard is for his new film with the Coen brothers, next year's “Burn After Reading”, which he is currently shooting. As for the weight loss, which looks to be about 20-30 pounds, whatever fat he had melted off due to the rigors of tossing the pigskin while directing and starring in “Leatherheads”, his sports comedy with Renee Zellweger and John Krasinski of “The Office” that's due Dec. 7.

“It was playing football every day," Clooney says while chowing down on sliced fruit and waiting for a room-service lobster roll. “I was a little thinner about three months ago. I almost weighed what I weighed in high school. Literally, if you play football every day, you just get your butt kicked.”

Of course, the tabloids are suspecting health issues are the reason for his newly lanky frame. “All the papers are like 'cancer scare.' I'm old enough not to panic on things like that. But you watch what they do and say to these girls. If you put on a little bit of weight, they go, 'Look who's fat.' And then they get skinny and they go, 'Look who's anorexic.' Well, look who's creating that panic in 21-year-old girls.”

No new news on the Clooney pet front, though. He hasn't replaced his pet porker, Max, his housemate for 18 years who passed away late last year. “The truth is I haven't been home,” says Clooney, who also lost two dogs in 2006 and now has just one bulldog.

“I left Jan. 3 and I haven't been in my house because we went to North Carolina and worked. And I went to Italy and cut. I went to France and back. And now here and New York. I've got another two months, so it will almost be a full year until I'm back. You can't have a pet until you are home.”

Clooney on staying in shape: Play football

September 2, 2007

George Clooney said he has the perfect regimen for keeping in shape, according to a posting in the Malaysian Sun.

“I do a lot of aerobics and a lot of dance, a lot of jazzercise and Bikram yoga,” said Clooney to ananova.com, which quoted the star of “Leatherheads”. And I use a ButtMaster.

“But seriously, I just finished doing a movie (“Leatherheads”) where I did football every day with a bunch of 21-year-olds and that keeps you in shape. I highly recommend it. That's going to keep anyone in shape."
The revelation caused a round of applause from the press, prompting the actor to remark: “Thank you for asking that question."

The actor sparked rumors of ill health and a possible tummy tuck when he shed weight since piling on weight to star in “Syriana” in 2005.

Clooney filmed “Leatherheads” with Renee Zellweger.

Clooney also talked about his 1997 flop “Batman & Robin”.

He jokingly remarked: “When I did it they didn’t tell me that Batman was straight. I’d have played him straight if I’d known. But Christian (Bale) is terrific. I think he’s really brought the franchise back. I buried it, he’s brought it back.”

Clooney among the Venice eye candy

September 2, 2007

If you’re an Italian woman in Venice this week, there’s a little more eye candy than usual, courtesy of the Venice Film Festival. Stars like George Clooney are giving the ladies a reason to spend a little extra time in front of the mirror.

Clooney raised the level of class with his timeless look of distinction. The “Oceans Thirteen” actor was seen all over Venice sporting the elegant look of a gentleman.

As the Venice Film Festival continues, it appears this year’s festivities are being upstaged by the men, rather than the women turning out for the event. Who knew?

Clooney defends making Nestle ad

August 31, 2007

Hollywood heartthrob George Clooney on Friday showed irritation with a reporter’s question how he could reconcile criticizing multinationals with appearing in high-profile ads for Nestle.

Clooney was at the ongoing Venice film festival to present his latest film, the thriller “Michael Clayton,” in which he plays a “fixer” for an enormous New York law firm.

Asked at a Venice news conference about ads for Nespresso, a coffee brand by multinational Nestle, in which he stars, Clooney said he did not work for Nestle, he just did the Nespresso ads.

“I’m not going to apologize to you for trying to make a living every once in a while. I find that an irritating question,” Clooney said unsmilingly.

Nestle is a multinational food company based in Switzerland. The company has been criticized in the past for its manner of marketing formula baby milk in developing countries. The controversy led to a boycott of its products in the late 1970s.

Clooney to ET: Italy is my home

August 31, 2007

ET caught up with George Clooney in Venice for the 75th annual Venice Film Festival as he promoted his new film, “Michael Clayton.”

George came straight from his home in Lake Cuomo to the Venice festival, saying Italy is "one of the great countries in the world; I mean I love everything about it -- it's my home."

He answered questions about keeping in shape. But when it came to questions about his involvement in advertising gigs overseas, George was on the defensive, saying, "I'm not going to apologize to you for trying to make a living every once in a while. It's sort of an irritating question."

In 'Michael Clayton' -- headed into theaters in October -- George plays an in-house "fixer" at one of the largest corporate law firms in New York City. Known as "The Janitor" by his colleagues, his job is to clean up the messes of the wealthy clients represented by his employer -- the law firm of Kenner, Bach & Ledeen.

Burnt out and discontented in his job, Clayton doesn't have the option of quitting, because a divorce, a gambling habit and a failed business venture have left him without funds.

The film is written and directed by Tony Gilroy, whose inspiration for the story about a man who works in a back-of-the-house department of a law firm came while visiting law offices as part of his research for his 'The Devil's Advocate' screenplay.

New movie script for Clooney production company

George Clooney’s production company is writing a script for a movie based on the true story of Antonio Mendez, a CIA fake-identity expert who smuggled six Americans out of Iran while dozens of others were being held hostage there.

The trade journal “Variety” has reported that the script for the film, “Escape from Tehran,” will be a “dramedy” - or humorous drama - and that Clooney could direct and star in.

Mendez, now retired, devised the operation after the U.S. Embassy in Tehran was overrun by a mob on Nov. 4, 1979.

Pfeiffer and Clooney still fighting over bet decade ago

August 23, 2007

Michelle Pfeiffer and George Clooney still argue over a bet they made 10 years ago, according to a story posted on Dailyindia.com.

Pfeiffer challenged Clooney in 1996 that he would be married in 10 years.

The bet was won by singleton Clooney, but he insists that the money Pfeiffer owes him is $1,000 dollars while Pfeiffer argues she bet for only $100.

Pfeiffer quipped that Clooney, 46, was losing memory with his age, for he could not remember the bet exactly.

“I’m right. I think age is finally catching up with George. They do say the first thing to go is memory,” Contact music quoted Pfeiffer, as saying.

Matt Damon e-mails Clooney with boast

August 17, 2007

Matt Damon told George Clooney to “suck it, sexy boy” when Clooney was named most bankable star by Forbes.

Damon, 36, immediately contacted his “Ocean’s Thirteen” co-star - who has twice been named People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive - to boast that he had finally trumped him in a poll.

When asked if he had revelled in his “victory”, Damon - who has made a fortune playing former CIA assassin Jason Bourne in the “Bourne” trilogy - told BANG Showbiz: “Oh yeah! The e-mail that went out to George said, “Suck it, sexy boy!” and I attached the article.

“And he wrote back, ‘Yeah, that’s great, I had that read to me by one of my servants at my villa!’ ”

According to the poll, Damon - whose first two “Bourne” movies banked $500 million, while the third installment “The Bourne Ultimatum” topped the U.S. box office in its opening week - makes the studio $29 for every dollar he is paid.

Brad Pitt came second on the Ultimate Star Payback list, making $24 for every dollar, while Vince Vaughn was in joint third place with “Pirates of the Caribbean” star Johnny Depp.

Former “Friends” actress Jennifer Aniston was the highest-ranked female at number five.

‘Leatherheads’ moved away from portraying McNally

August 16, 2007

The movie “Leatherheads,” about pro football in the 1920s, might have started out based on the legend of Hall of Famer and Wisconsin native Johnny “Blood” McNally but the project moved far from trying to accurately portray the real player.

Actor/director George Clooney reworked the 1991 script by Sports Illustrated writers Duncan Brantley and Rick Reilly.

Clooney told “Entertainment Weekly” that his movie, set to open on Dec. 7, “is 'Slap Shot” meets “The Philadelphia Story,” as filtered though the Coen brothers."

Reilly told the magazine he is pleased the movie got made. “It was like finding out a child you had to give up for adoption and haven’t seen for 15 years is not only alive, but is Miss Teen California,” Reilly said.

Study: Clooney aging the best!

August 11, 2007

George Clooney and Dame Helen Mirren are Hollywood’s best vintages according to a new study. Nearly a third (32 percent) of Brits chose “Ocean's Thirteen” star Clooney as the Hollywood heartthrob who has aged best, while Oscar-winner Mirren was crowned the nation’s beauty Queen with more than one in three (34 percent) Brits choosing her as the female film star who has aged most gracefully.

Clooney vows to keep in shape

August 4, 2007

Now that actor George Clooney has shed more pounds, than he had put on for playing his Oscar-winning role in the film “Syriana”, he has vowed to keep in shape.

The actor had piled on 35 pounds in 30 days for “Syriana”, but he has now lost far more than he had initially put on. “I made a promise to keep in shape. It was frighteningly easy to put the weight on. I did it in a month and that’s scary, because it takes a lot longer to get it off again. Especially when your body isn’t used to working out,” he said.

Clooney, 46, said that being fat made him feel old and depressed. “There was not a moment that was fun about shooting the film. Everybody has a year where they age a decade and this was that one for me. It was good for the film and I am glad I did it, but I would never do it again,” he added.

Clooney: ‘Ocean’s Thirteen” to be his last film in series

August 3, 2007

There will be no more Ocean’s. At least, that’s so according to George Clooney, who has starred as Danny Ocean in the series of supercool heist flicks.

At a press conference with producer Jerry Weintraub in Tokyo to launch the latest installment, “Ocean’s Thirteen”, Clooney repeatedly said that there would be no more movies in the series. But as his performance at the conference was full of his trademark mischievous jokes, reporters were left wondering how seriously to take him.

“I’m Brad Pitt, but look much older,” Clooney said, starting the conference with a laugh. And he offered a controversial choice for the movie's best scene: “I think the love scene between Brad and I, like Brokeback Mountain--that was cut out, though.”

Besides the big stars, “Ocean’s Thirteen” also has cameos for celebrities from other fields including Oprah Winfrey and former sumo star Akebono. But the biggest new face in the movie is superstar Al Pacino.
“I think that Al learned a lot about acting from me,” Clooney deadpanned.

Although he sounds reluctant to do another Ocean’s, Clooney emphasized that he liked playing Ocean and enjoyed working with his co-stars.

“It’s a fun character to play because you won’t see many films in this day and age with that many big stars. We’re sort of actively handing the spotlight around,” Clooney says. “They share everything with one another. They’re not trying to grab the spotlight. It’s a casual group. I think that’s the thing that I like the most about it -- how laid-back everyone is.”

The magazine's 68th annual list also saw retired star Japanese midfielder Hidetoshi Nakata, American rocker Lenny Kravitz and filmmaker Sofia Coppola honoured for their sartorial elegance.

Among the couples on the 2007 International Best-Dressed List were Hollywood leading couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who featured along with former England captain David Beckham and his pop star wife Victoria, aka Posh Spice.

While Beckham has appeared on the list before, it was the first time the pair had appeared as a couple.
Another second generation celebrity - Ivanka Trump, daughter of real estate mogul Donald Trump - made the list.

Krasinski: Clooney is a true mentor to me

John Krasinski just wrapped work on Leatherheads, co-starring and directed by George Clooney. “One of these days I’ll work with a good director,” Krasinski deadpans.

In the 1920s-era period piece, due in December, Krasinski plays a college football star drafted by Clooney's rugged team captain. The two professional allies become rivals, however, when they end up vying for the affections of Renee Zellweger.

“You can make jokes, but he’s everything anyone has ever said about him,” Krasinski says of the Oscar-winner.

"To be that big of a star and to be that grounded and that classy, he’s a true mentor for me. As a director, he knows you’ve done a good job before you do, so after three takes he’s like, ‘Got it’ and you’re thinking, ‘I’m still getting used to this. I shouldn’t have done it in a Russian accent.' "

Damon: Clooney and Pitt earthly treasures

July 26, 2007

George Clooney and Brad Pitt are so down to earth a visiting alien wouldn’t be able to tell them apart from regular people, according to pal Matt Damon. Damon insists he and his “Ocean's Thirteen” co-stars have formed such a close friendship, because Clooney and Pitt are no different to the friends he grew up with.

Damon says, “George and Brad are kindred spirits. Having a beer with those two guys is like having a drink with guys I grew up with. It”s just like any other group - cards, pool and a few beers. Behind closed doors you’d have no idea they were stars.”I’d love it if an alien came down for those two, and they were in a room with other guys, because they wouldn’t be able to pick out the stars based on the way they behave.”

Clooney appearing among 22 films chosen for Venice Festival

George Clooney and the stars are coming out in full force for this month’s 64th Venice Film Festival with the lineup for both in and out of competition films boasting performances, and consequently red carpet appearances, from the cream of Hollywood’s crop.

Twenty-two films have been included in the Italian festival's competition this year, which runs from Aug. 29 to Sept. 8.

Among those chosen is Ang Lee's “Michael Clayton,” starring Clooney. “Michael Clayton”, the Clooney-led legal thriller, is also slated for the main competition, and centers on a lawyer who specializes in cleaning up clients’ personal problems.

The films at this year’s festival will be judged, as usual, by a six-person jury, though breaking from tradition, this year's assembled panel is comprised solely of directors.
While this year's fest should mark the event's 75th anniversary — it’s inaugural lineup of films debuted in 1932 — world wars and local protests caused it to lapse for several years, resulting in this being just the 64th official edition.

Carol and George are number one

July 25, 2007

Whether it's the beautiful way she handles her consonants or her stunning long-division, it's a new string to her bow for British men have now voted Carol Vorderman their perfect woman.

British women were perhaps a little more obvious in their choice: George Clooney, who has topped these kinds of polls once or twice before.

Most women across Europe agree on one thing: Clooney. In the poll, half of women in France, Germany and Spain voted for Clooney as their ideal man.

Britons, Germans and Scandinavians favor brown hair for their men while people in Spain and France think black locks are best. Long hair was a big no-no for all men.

The uber-mathematician Vorderman with a twinkle in her eye came out on top of the Europe-wide poll conducted to discover how people's ideal man and woman varies from country to country.

The ideal British woman is 5-foot-6-inches tall with brown hair, a sense of adventure and a head for finances - just like Carol.

Clooney looking for Showtime’s approval

July 12, 2007

Oscar-winning actor George Clooney is among producers who are vying to get the approval of Showtime, a subscription television brand used by a number of channels and platforms around the world, for the scripts of their dramas.

Clooney is planning to shoot the pilot of an hour-long drama about a family on televangelists, titled “Doubting Thomas”, once it gets a green signal from Showtime.

The story of the film revolves around a powerful televangelist suffering a stroke, leaving him unable to continue his preaching. Clooney will likely appear at film fest

July 11, 2007

Has George Clooney suffered enough to be credible as a guy on the verge of a meltdown?

Clooney may not look sad or tired as he struts the red carpet at Roy Thomson Hall in September for the North American premiere of “Michael Clayton” at the Toronto International Film Festival, which runs Sept. 6-15.

Clooney stars as “Michael Clayton,” a Gotham corporate lawyer having an unexpected crisis of conscience as he faces off against rival suit Tilda Swinton.

Screenwriter Tony Gilroy, best known for the “Bourne” trilogy, wrote the script and makes his directorial debut. The film, due out October 5, unspools first at the Venice fest a few days earlier, then makes its North American premiere in Toronto.

Clooney’s film is getting the “Gala” treatment at the fest - this means a splashy red carpet premiere at Roy Thomson Hall (usually home to the Toronto Symphony) with lots of media attention. Over 500 journalists attend the festival.

Clooney sympathetic for young stars

George Clooney said that he feels sorry for the young stars growing up in Hollywood today.

Clooney said he probably couldn't have handled the pressures that they face at their age. Clooney is sympathetic to troubled stars like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan because he can't believe the attention they get from the media.

Clooney said, “If I were as famous as some of those kids who are in the magazines right now at 21 years old, I’d be shooting crack under my eyeball. We are always going to be that society that slows down to look at the car wreck on the side of the road. I think we're just in one of those places right now, and it seems to be focused on younger kids like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan and people like that. They'll get through it, but I wouldn't want to be growing up around that."

Clooney slowing down on partying

George Clooney says he doesn’t enjoy partying like he used to and hangovers get worse with age!

The 45-year-old megastar has decided to stop going to parties because he doesn’t like the hung over feeling the next day. Clooney has been attending fewer parties since undergoing back surgery in 2005.

"You begin to hate waking up with the kind of hangover you get from going on huge benders with your buddies. I'm more cautious,” said Clooney

June 26, 2007

Although George Clooney has vowed that he will never get married, nor have any children, his reporter father Nick Clooney strongly believes that the actor will settle down one day.

In a recent interview, the senior Clooney said that his son has always asserted his indifference to marriage and kids after his marriage to actress Talia Balsam collapsed in 1993.

"He would say, 'Pop, I was married. I'm inoculated,'" The London Sun quoted Nick, as saying.
But Nick said that he knows his son will one day tie the knot and start a family.

"But my guess is somewhere down the line some very funny women will knock his socks off and that will be the end of it," he said.

However Nick added: "But if it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen."

Clooney and Balsam married in 1989 and got divorced in 1993.

Clooney teaches Krasinski 'courtly' lesson

June 10, 2007

George Clooney had taken all he wanted to from "Leatherheads" co-star John Krasinski talking trash how good a basketball player Krasinski was. Krasinski had needled Clooney enough during the final days of filming at Statesville, North Carolina to where Clooney decided it was time to teach his younger cast member a lesson on the court and in banking.

Krasinski, 27, boasted throughout the "Leatherheads" shooting that he could beat Clooney, 46, in a one-on-one basketball game. During one of the final production days in Statesville, Clooney took Krasinski up on a $500 bet and it was quickly doubled to $1,000.

An extra in the "Leatherheads" shooting in South Carolina and North Carolina, said the scouting report on Clooney was that he was quick and had a good outside shot. Clooney and cast members played at a church in Greenville during filming in Travelers Rest, South Carolina earlier in the production.

The World Entertainment News Network reported, in an interview with Clooney, that he was surprised with Krasinski's bravado. "I love him, but the fun part is that he talked s...," Clooney said.

"The first day on the set he's like, 'I play basketball' and I was like, 'I play a little too.' He looks at me and goes, 'I'll kick your ass.' "And I was like, 'Alright, whatever.' And he's like, 'OK, let's make it $1,000 then.' "So for the entire shoot we've been talking about this bet. We haven't played, the whole shoot. And (on the last day of shooting) we played. And I beat him 11-8! "I was on cloud nine. I was wiping my forehead with $100 bills going, 'Whooo, is it hot in here?'"

An extra on the set in Statesville said he saw Clooney wiping his forehead with the $100 bill. The extra said Clooney added insult to injury by demonstrating his shooting form.

Clooney gets star on walk of fame

June 5

“Leatherheads” director and star George Clooney received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theater. Clooney and Ocean’s 13 stars Matt Damon, Brad Pitt and producer Jerry Weintraub joined Clooney for the honor.

For Clooney, putting his hands in sticky cement wasn’t as easy as one would think. “It’s really difficult,” Clooney joked. “(It’s) the hardest thing I’ve ever done.”

As for the famous signatures below the cement plaques, Pitt just signed his initials.

“That’s what he does,” Clooney said. “It’s because Prince took his first signature and he’s really upset by that.”

It was sheer pandemonium, Access Hollywood reported, as the “Ocean’s 13” cast – Clooney, Pitt and Damon showed some fan appreciation – crossing Hollywood Boulevard to pose for photos and sign autographs.

“I have got to say, I must say, if I had to be on my hands and knees with three other guys, I can’t think of three better guys to do it with,” Clooney said with a laugh.

Clooney filmed “Leatherheads” in the Carolinas earlier this year. The movie debuts December 7.

Leatherheads makes it a wrap in Statesville

May 18, 2007

Call it a wrap for “Leatherheads”.

The lights dimmed around midnight in downtown Statesville, North Carolina May 17, 2007.

George Clooney is the producer, director and star in the 1920s-era romantic comedy with fellow Oscar winner Renee Zellweger.

Statesville played prominently in the site selection as the town played host to the cast for parts of the past two weeks. Filming began February 12 at a farm near Tigerville, South Carolina.

The filming took place throughout North Carolina and South Carolina. It created quite a buzz in small towns and featured nearly 1,000 extras from the Carolinas and Georgia.

Fans also turned out by the thousands and waited in rain and humid heat to catch a glimpse of the stars, most notably Clooney. Ironically, the setting for the movie was made to look like Duluth, Minnesota. Area hotels, restaurants and businesses were used to represent the speakeasies and memorable times during the “Roaring 20s.”

And Clooney was as cordial in the end as he was in the beginning.

That’s the way it ended late Thursday night with Clooney thanking the fans for their support, signing photos and autographs at Center Street in downtown Statesville near the old city hall and Vance Hotel.

Within days, cast,  grips, gaffers, hair and makeup artists, hundreds of production assistants followed the stars out of town.

Also gone were the miles of cable, fleet of trucks and trailers.

The movie is scheduled for a national release on December 7. No official word has been released where Clooney will hold the movie’s premiere.

Clooney 8th on list for Tesla Roadster

May 1, 2007

Remember when you couldn’t buy a Toyota Prius to save your life? Demand was crazy, spotting one was akin to reading “Where’s Waldo?”, and the waiting list was depressing. Think of the Tesla Roadster having the same effect on the very rich — but in even more limited quantities.

This is what Tesla Motors is facing as it prepares to place the final touches on its all-electric sports car. All in all, when the first units roll out in late summer, the last person on the waiting list –with more than 380 ordered — won’t be cruising in this red beauty until June of ‘08. So, as you can imagine, where you are on that list is very, very important.

Lawrence Ulrich of the New York Times had the opportunity a few weeks back to take the Tesla for a spin. He also managed to squeeze out of company reps who the first fortunate few will be to land a Tesla in their driveways.

“Beyond that, Tesla is being somewhat coy about the public run. But George Clooney is No. 8 on Tesla’s list.
