Locks of Love certainly got a lot of contributions from extras cast in the “Leatherheads”. Jenna Slawter contributed 8-10 inches of her hair to be cast as a flapper in dance scenes at a speakeasy.

The dance scenes required Jenna and her cast members to perform the Charleston and foxtrot. It wasn’t much trouble for Jenna, who took dance in high school and had to perform routines as a cheerleader.

Jenna was spotted for her role during casting. “Somebody came up to me and said ‘we want you to be a dancer,’” said Jenna. A dance instructor taught us the foxtrot. We spent four and a half hours learning the foxtrot and filming the scenes. It was a lot of fun learning the dances and there were a lot of stepping on toes.

“To learn the dances they put chairs around in a circle and we had to dance in a tight area,” said Jenna.

It was strenuous and tiring to be on the set for two days. “The first day we were there 5 a.m. until 9 p.m. and the second day we were on the set 6 a.m. until 1 p.m. And both of those days I was in high heels! Oh my gosh, I was so tired. I got up at 3:30 a.m. both days to get to the set on time.”

The set, said Jenna, was just like a bar in the 1920s. “The bar, tables and chairs made it look just like the inside of a bar. The band and singer gave it so much character. The only problem was it was so smoky because everyone smoked in those days and the crew was encouraging the cast to smoke all they wanted. I have asthma and was asked to smoke but I didn’t!

"Unfortunately they only chose two out of about eight couples to dance in the scene. But the dancers who did not get to dance were placed in good spots throughout the scene," said Jenna.

Jenna described the scene she filmed. “George Clooney walks into the bar with another lady. The girl said she had to go to the bathroom and then Renee and George start slow dancing.”

Jenna said when the director called “action” it was all serious business. “George Clooney was all business and also made acting fun. It took five to six hours to film our scene. I really admire how hard everyone worked.  I had a test to study for and tried to get in some studying between takes. I was really taken with just the patience that was needed.”

Jenna said she did well on her biology test.

Jenna stands a good chance of being shown in the movie when it comes out on April 4, 2008.

Jenna has caught the acting bug. “I would definitely do this again. This was a big start. I loved being part of the movie. Some friends that I made from 'Leatherheads' are keeping me posted on movies. I would love to do another one if given the opportunity.

It was really unreal being around both George and Renee. I can look at George and Renee differently now that I have worked with them and seen them in action.”
